Kathleen Carlson

Kathleen Carlson has been professionally involved in the arts since she was 10 years old. She was a professor and studio manager at The George Washington University, working and teaching in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media.

Her work has been shown in commercial, public, and government spaces and private homes around Maryland. In addition to producing her own art, she has worked collaboratively with students on permanent exhibits for the Baltimore Zoo and local elementary and high schools and colleges.

Kathleen's art draws intensely from her own personal experiences. She has created art series around themes of environmental peril, the woman's place in society, the events of September 11, 2001, and the beauty and fragility of nature on the Chesapeake Bay.

Western Shore Studio was established in 2000, when Kathleen relocated to a small cottage on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Her studio has spaces and equipment for painting, wood and ceramic sculpture, and digital art creation. More importantly, its expansive view of the bay, waterfowl and fisherman as they change throughout the day and year provide a never-ending source of inspiration.

Kathleen lives in St Leonard, Maryland, and is a long-time member of Sculptors Inc of Baltimore, and former Board member of the Washington Sculptures Group. She is on the Board of the Prince Frederick Historic District Commission and the Long Beach Citizens Association.
